Yard Of Food Project

***SITE GETTING UPDATED***

***I am making each page visible as they are completed (or close to completion). ***

Keep in mind, that everything I grow, is on approx. 1/4 of an acre including my house. If I can grow this much (and more to come), you can grow too.

My whole project started with my pond...

I wanted a nice water feature in my yard to help with wildlife and for aesthetic purposes. What I realized once it was functional (nowhere near finished), was that I wanted it to be functional in more ways than just wildlife.

I used it for a hydroponics-like station (grew lettuces), but it was too much work to maintain. I tried an aquaponics station on it, but that too was difficult to maintain.

Now it just helps bring in natural pest control (like frogs, toads, dragonflies).

I want to make the whole yard edible!!

...or at least most of it. Need some other plants tucked in to fill gaps and make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Once my yard is producing well...

Food enough to make me want to share with those around me (who respect what I'm doing).

You can grow too. It's as simple as going to your local nursery once a month and selecting something (clearance plants seem to like my yard better than spoiled new ones).

If you are still with me :-D

Many of the foods have their generic nutritional facts with them. Different varieties may contain slightly different amounts of nutrients.

While many plants cannot be seen at all times, they are still there. Some only pop out of the ground at certain times of the year. Others, take a while before they feel comfortable enough with our weather to pop up.

Examples are the Crocus which only pop up in late Winter (or Fall, depending on variety) and the Dragon Flower. The Dragon Flower bulbs were in the ground for two years before they decided the time was right to come up. They not only came up, but bloomed too!
